How we started
We are two friends, Suzanne Frank and Claudia Levey, who have built a business around our passion for gardening. We both escaped previous white collar careers for greener pursuits. Bluestem Garden Design got off the ground in 2003.

Urban Garden Specialists
We both reside on the north side of Chicago and feel closely attuned to the demands and eccentricities of Chicagoland properties. We've had clients with tiny, enclosed patio spaces and others with quite expansive yards. Sometimes, the design challenge is a rooftop or backyard deck. Whatever the space, we can help you enjoy it more and get more use from it.
Our Credentials
We take our gardening seriously! We are both Residential Landscape Designers certified by Northwestern University. Claudia is also a certified Illinois Master Gardener. Suzanne is a committed environmentalist and is particularly knowledgeable about eco-friendly garden choices. We are members of two professional landscaping associations:
