About the Urban Gardeners |
We are two friends, Suzanne Frank and Claudia Levey, who have built a business around our passion for gardening. Having escaped previous executive careers, we went into business together in 2006.
We both live on the near north side of Chicago and feel especially attuned to the demands and eccentricities of city properties.
We are Residential Landscape Designers with certificates from Northwestern University. Claudia is also a certified Illinois Master Gardener. Suzanne is a committed environmentalist and is particularly knowledgeable about eco-friendly garden choices.

| Bluestem Gardens = Sustainable Gardens
Bluestem is the state prairie grass of Illinois. It was once the most abundant grass throughout the Illinois Prairie.
We named our business after this native plant in deference to our belief in sustainable gardening. Sustainable gardening is beneficial to the environment and is lower maintenance as well. We make it a practice to add nutrient-rich organic matter before we plant, use native plant selections that will thrive in our area, plan hardscape that will allow water to enter the soil, and recommend irrigation plans that will help conserve water. Responsible gardening benefits everyone.
